With your help, Bickel Camp can be a place for us today and
tomorrow, with our
future generations enjoying it too. So much needs to be done, starting
with the site being finally added to the National Register for
Historical Places. To be submitted for historical site recognition, the
site probably must be inventoried (again) by an archeologist. After the
inventory, and hopeful recommendation for submission by the
archeologist, the personal property should be deeded over to the
site's responsible party, namely FLCC. The
mining claim could be amended to cede the area of the camp proper.
Surveying would be necessary, and a host of other things, such as
a kiosk with artifact info. I personally would also like to do more
than give personal tours, and add a touch of real prospecting with actual
gold panning for kids and adults too. All these things take time and
money too, while we need the caretaker to be onsite and watching over
this fragile area.
